Daniel Clark Ham was born in Shelby, Orleans County, New York on the 7th day of July 1852 and died at his home in Blue Rapids, Kansas on the 9th day of February 1926 at the age of 73 years, 7 months, 2 days.
In 1871, at the age of nineteen, with his parents Alonzo and Emma Ham, came to Kansas and settled on a farm northeast of Blue Rapids, where he spent his young days helping his parents develop the prairies into one of the garden spots of the world.
On the 1st day of April 1884 he was united in marriage to Ida May MalAmbre. To this union were born three children: two sons and one daughter, all living and able to help care for their father in his last days of his earthly life.
After his marriage he bought a farm northeast of Blue Rapids, which he farmed till five years ago, when he sold the farm and moved for a few months to Palmer, Nebraska, to live with their daughter.
Mrs. Sheldon, after which they again moved to Blue Rapids where he made his home till death relieved him from his earthly career.
The deceased leaves to mourn his departure, his beloved wife, who as no one else will miss his loving care and companionship; two sons: Russell Howard of Blue Rapids and Aubrey Lawson of Lincoln, Nebraska; one daughter: Mrs. Edith MalAmbre Sheldon of Palmer Nebraska; one step-sister Mrs. Chas E. Jester of Blue Rapids; six nieces, two nephews; four grand children, numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
T is to the sturdy pioneers like the deceased that we owe a great debt. They came out into the undeveloped West and amid hardships and toil blazed the way for their children making it possible to enjoy the blessings that are ours today. Thus as they pass on one by one, we can truthfully say: "Thou who hast been faithful in your trust, enter thou into your reward."
Services were held from the home and the remains laid to rest in the Prospect Hill Cemetery. Rev. R. J. Zeidler had charge of the services. Music was rendered by Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Coulter, Mrs. Frank Marvin, H. F. Kaump. Pallbearers were H.J. Lane, W. F. Peacock, Dave Flowers, Geo. Flowers, H.C. Lathrap and L. Higganbotham.
