John was a son of Mary Ann (Horn) & Job Wheaton. His siblings were: Nancie C., Daniel Horn, Mary Ann, Maria F. and Angeline W. He married Elizabeth Munro on May 18, 1853 in Seekonk, MA. Elizabeth was 21 and John, 25. The Rev. Henry G. Stewart performed the ceremony. Their children were: Maria Louise (died at 2 months), Wilbur (died at 2 yrs., 9 months), Nathan M. (aged 2 weeks) and Annie Grey & Daniel D. (died within 1st year).
John was elected a justice of the peace in Barrington, RI June 15, 1865. He was also a member of the "Rhode Island Society for the Encouragement of Domestic Industry".
