Mrs. John L. Butler Dead.
Mrs. John L. Butler, 74, one of the pioneers of Kansas, died Sunday morning at her home in Americus, after a short illness. Funeral arrangements have not been made.
Mrs. Butler's maiden name was Mary Elizabeth Swim. She was a daughter of Dr. David and Margaret Swim and was born July 9, 1850, in Mercer county, Pa. She moved to Americus with her parents in 1856 and was married November 7, 1870 to John Lucas Butler. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Butler, one of whom, a son, died in childhood. Mr. Butler died June 10, 1916.
Surviving children are: George S. Butler, Americus Falls, Idaho; Mrs. Ethel Bell, Joplin, Mo.; Mrs. Mabel Weaver, Dunlap; John W. Butler and Mrs. Hazel Woodmansee, Emporia; Herbert l. Butler, Wells, Nev.; and Dale E. Butler, of Pauline, Idaho. Twenty grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. L. T. Boorey, of Pasadena, Calif., and two brothers, William W. Swim, of Americus, and Herbert A. Swim, of Stillwater, Okla., also survive.
Mrs. Butler was a member of the Methodist church.
