Melvin was the son of John Yarian and Susanna Bricker.
He married on December 23, 1907, to Carrie Good.

Yarian Melvin M, 86, of 304 S. Main St., died November 25, at McCray Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born 2 miles west of town on the Swan Road Feb. 19, 1882, the son of John and Susan Yarian. Before moving to Avilla he had engaged in farming, specializing in the raising of Polled Hereford cattle for more than 45 years. He was married on Dec. 25, 1907 with Carrie Good, who died April 7, 1962. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Lillie Pfleidner, of the Hopewell area; and a foster daughter, Mrs. Harold Weeks. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and Seckle; and three sisters, Etta, Myrta and Zora. He was a member of the Hopewell Presbyterian Church, had served in the Community State Bank as president and assistant cashier, served several years as vice president and was one of the directors for more than 35 years. Services will be held Friday in the L. E. Berhalter Funeral Home, Avilla. Burial, Avilla Cemetery.
