Jose Lechuga Che-Che Aguilera, 53, of Bayard died Tuesday at Fort Bayard Medical Center. He was born Dec. 6, 1936 in Faywood and was a lifetime Grant County resident. He was retired from Chino Mines Co., where he worked as a machine operator. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church and was a U.S. Army veteran. Calling hours are today from 2-9 p.m. in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels, where rosary services will be held at 7. Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Our Lady of Fatima Church with concluding services to follow in Fort Bayard National Cemetery. The Rev. Ricardo Hinojal will officiate. Veterans honors will be accorded by American Legion Allingham-Golding Post No. 18. Survivors include his wife, Magdalena T. Aguilera of Bayard; a brother, Ramon L. Aguilera of Phoenix; a sister, Maria L. Estrada of Central; two uncles, Luis Lechuga and his wife, Delia and Francisco Aguilera and his wife, Cruz; three aunts, Antonia Martinez and her husband, Martin, Manuela Madrid and Simona Lechuga, all of Hurley; three nephews; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Cosme Aguilera, Jr. Casket bearers will be Manuel Teran, Charlie Alvo, Steve Lechuga, Frank Carbajal, and Danny and Anthony Teran. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels.
