Gladys Marie Ecker was born on April 5, 1913, in Pine Ridge to James and Grace Lee. She grew up in Denby, S.D., and graduated from Lead High School in 1930. After high school, she attended Black Hills State College in Spearfish for two years and received a teaching certificate. She taught school in Pine Ridge for a couple of years and also at Porcupine and Allen. She then went to Northern State College in Aberdeen where she received her bachelor of science degree in education. She taught in Pierre and was married in 1945 in South Dakota to Ted Ecker and they lived in Pierre. Gladys taught in Pierre until she retired in 1975. Mr. Ecker passed away on Dec. 31, 1984, and Gladys continued living in Pierre until 1998 when she moved to Buffalo and became a resident at the Amie Holt Care Center. She had lived in Amie Holt until the time of her death.
She is survived by one son, Ted Ecker of Moab, Utah; one brother, Kenneth Lee and his wife Becky of Buffalo, Wyo.; one sister, Margaret Kesler of Corvalis, Ore.; and one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Lee of Delaware. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
