OBITUARY APLONIA KATHERINE CHILD

CLINTON -- Aplonia Katherine Van Kampen Child, 91, passed from this life Thursday, August 9, 2001, of causes incident to age. She was born in Ogden, January 13, 1910 to Kryn and Helena Jansen Van Kampen. She was dearly loved by all of her family and friends.

On December 4, 1928 Katherine married John Theodore Child in the Salt Lake Temple. The happy couple resided in Clinton, Davis County, Utah most of their lives, being married 61 years. Some of their livelihood was derived from working together as an entire family, growing crops, raising cattle and farming.

Music played a paramount part of Katherine"s life. She played a trumpet in a band before she was married. She performed on the piano and organ until she was 89 years of age. In her later years she enjoyed performing at local care centers, for those confined as well as a variety of other programs with "The Utah Old-Time Fiddlers," "The Child Country Cousins" and "The Old-Timer."

Katherine was a leader of the women. She served as Primary President, Young Women"s President, Relief Society President, Stake Relief Society Counselor and President. She served her community in various callings and was honored as "Clinton"s Mother of the Year" for the Sesquicenntenial Celebration in 1996. She also always enjoyed sports, playing softball and volleyball, into her 70"s.

Her descendants number 95, with six sons, 35 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren. Katherine and John"s family were missionaries to the world with 110 years of service rendered. Katherine was preceded in death by all her sisters, brothers, and parents, one son, Floyd John Child and a granddaughter, Melinda Child.

She is survived by five sons, Ray E. (Linda Lou) Child, Clinton; Clark B. (Beverly) Child, Dr. Paul L. (Mary Margaret) Child, Ogden; Dale L. Child, and Don R. (Nanette) Child, Layton.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 13, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist"s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
