Kenneth Kinney was the bombardier on B-24 #42-73194, assigned to the 10th Air Force, 7th Bombardment Group, 493rd Bombardment Squadron. They were part of a six plane formation on the way to bomb the town of Pakokku, Burma when they were attacked by fifteen to twenty Japanese fighters. Kinney's and two other planes were shot down.

Lt. Kenneth E. Kinney, 24, bombardier in the United States Army Air Forces in India, is missing in action, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lovell. Kinney, who reside on Route 5, Gouverneur, were informed recently by telegram.
A short time prior to receiving the report he was missing, his parents were informed that he had been ill and at a base hospital but was discharged and returned to duty. He received his commission and wings as a bombardier upon graduation at Victorville, Calif., on July 25, 1942, after joining the Army Air Force Mar. 21, 1941. He visited home last spring. He was advanced to a first lieutenant on Sept. 5, 1943.
The young flier was awarded an air medal in September for participating in combat missions totaling more than 100 hours. His group also was commended for operations in the Orient.
