Loving Father and Husband. Robert was born November 1, 1926 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin and passed away April 5, 2008 in Kent, Washington of Kidney and Heart problems.
He was the son of August and Anna Dorsch and had two Sisters, Helen and Lois.
Robert enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 during WW2. He was sent to the South Pacific and served on a flattop aircraft carrier (USS Barnes). During an aircraft crash on the deck of the carrier he was severely wounded suffering a skull fracture. He spent several months recovering and learning to walk again in Pearl Harbor and the mainland. He was honorably discharged as a Seaman 1st Class on July 12 1944.
Returning home to Milwaukee, he began work as an apprentice in the funeral business and received his embalmers license. Wanting a warmer climate, he moved to California, attended and graduated from Mortuary Science College receiving his directors license. Bob loved the warm weather and managed several mortuaries.
In 1963 he met and married Marilyn Swanson in San Bernardino. They later moved to Kingsburg where their Son Jeff was born. Another move found them in Scottsdale Arizona where he became interested in nursing and attained his RN degree from Phoenix College. His goal was to become a Physicians Assistant, but his age prevented his admittance to medical college. He worked in Nursing for a couple years and then returned to the mortuary business at Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery. While he was there, he oversaw many celebrity funerals. Today this famous cemetery has tours to view the celebrity memorials such as Rudolph Valentino etc.
Married for 45 years, Bob and Marilyn retired in 1992 and moved to Minnesota to care for Marilyn's Sister in Alexandria. They made their last move to Kent Washington to be near their Son Jeff, 3 Grandchildren, 3 Great- Grandchildren, 2 cousins and 1 niece. He will be greatly missed. Peace be to his memory.
