Funeral services for John Augustus Mallette, 80, who died at his home on the old Main street road Monday afternoon at about 3 o'clock, will be conducted tomorrow morning at 10 from St. James Catholic church, Rev. Frederick P. Diviney, pastor, will conduct the requiem high mass and interment will be in Riverside cemetery.
Mr. Mallette suffered from an attack of pneumonia which he contracted October 26. He never completely recovered from this illness which had confined him to his home since that date.
Mr. Mallette married the former Katherine Wall of Gouverneur 53 years ago, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Father Laramie, then pastor of St. James Roman Catholic church. Mrs. Mallette died March 8, 1936.
Mr. Mallette was born in Gouverneur April 21, 1868, the son of George and Margaret Blair Mallette. Before becoming a barber, which trade he had pursued for over 30 years, Mr. Mallette was for a time employed in a grocery store owned by the late Andrew Kinney.
He attended a barber school to learn the trade and upon completing his course became a barber in Gouverneur. For several years he operated a barber shop in the basement of the Masonic temple, where he remained until he was taken ill last October.
Surviving Mr. Mallette are seven daughters, Mrs. Evangeline Van Norton, Gouverneur; Mrs. Margaret Post, Cleveland Ohio; Mrs. Francis (Agatha) McDOnald, Mrs. Ernest (Edith) Purdy and Mrs. Frank (Eleanor) Parker, all of Binghampton; Mrs. Lloyd (Catherine) Petrie, Syracuse, Miss Eunice Mallette, Indianapolis, Ind; 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
