November 26, 1921 - April 10, 2008. Flora Belarde, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 10, 2008 at home. She was a longtime resident of Colorado Springs and cooked in many local restaurants. Flora was born on November 26, 1921 in Julnar, Colorado to Joe and Francis (Espinoza) Vigil. Flora loved going to Cripple Creek and dog races, she enjoyed her artwork and working in the yard, but her true passion was cooking for, and being with, her family. They were her life. She was a member of Assembly of God and Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Trinidad when she resided there. Surviving Flora are her three children: George Belarde, Rose Ann (husband John) Santistevan and Frances McKenna; eleven grandchildren: Dennis R., James R., Johnny, Kirt, Joseph, Diane, Benjamin, Robert, Rose Lee, Jackie, Meranda Lee Hillman, and Deanna; nephew Jim Montoya; thirty-one great-grandchildren; eleven great great-grandchildren; brother Pefanio Vigil; three sisters: Rose Brazeal, Sarah Hendry and Fermena Ulibarri and numerous extended family members and friends. Her husband Steve Belarde; son Benjamin, who was killed in Vietnam, daughter Leola, sisters: Delphie Bustos and Premenai Trujillo, brothers: Raymond and Joe Vigil, grandson: Troy Jeffers, and her parents preceded her in death. A visitation will be held from 2-4:00 p.m. with Funeral Services following at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2008 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses. Burial will follow on Tuesday at Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.
