WIFE OF ROWLAND S.BELLObituary of Iva Lee Bell
We are celebrating Iva Lee Hagood Bell's life, as she was reunited in Heaven with her husband, Rowland Bell, on Sunday, March 7th. Rowland and Iva were married for 57 years before his passing in 1984. Iva was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her three daughters Sylvia, Gloria, and Cassandra. Her grandchildren Toni, Stephanie, Stephan, Michael, Heath, Darren, her great-grandchildren Ashley, Markie, Harrison, and her great-great-grandchild Rowland. Iva was the center of her family, always radiating love - the matriarch who provided a loving home where everyone gathered and were always welcome. She was a caregiver, her home a haven for the family. If she were to tell her own life story, she would certainly be most proud of her family. It meant everything to her. Iva was born Sep. 10, 1911, in a small humble farmhouse that her father and grandfather built in Alpharetta, Georgia. She grew up in the country in a large family of six brothers and one sister. She was the third to the youngest out of her siblings. Work was not foreign to Iva Lee - from a young age, she learned the value of working hard and continued to do so throughout her life. Her parents owned a general store in Alpharetta; her observations and life lessons from that would prove valuable to her later in life when Ivaand Rowland would open their own general store. Iva's parents relocated to Tampa, Florida, by train in the mid-1920s and lived in the area known as Gary, just outside of Ybor City, where she met her future husband, Rowland. Iva worked for HAVATAMPA while Rowland worked for the railroad. The couple did what any happy couple would do, frequenting parks, having picnics, going swimming, fishing, attending movies, and riding the trolley car to explore downtown Tampa. The couple moved to Sulphur Springs, where they opened a feed and grocery store, and in 1942 they were given the gift of their twin daughters Gloria and Sylvia. Around 1950, Iva and Rowland relocated to the quiet town of Brandon, where they opened Bell's Grocery off Highway 60. They would build their family home there and welcomed their youngest daughter Cassandra in 1955. The first of four grandkids were born in the 1960s with two more grandchildren and two great-grandchildren in the 1980s. The holidays were always a special time at their home, where everyone would gather and spend cherished times together. On Sundays after church, she would host large family meals. Iva would rarely sit down to eat, as she was always attending to everyone's needs, something she enjoyed greatly. After closing Bell's Grocery in the 1960s, Iva went on to work at the iconic Maas Brothers store in downtown Tampa. She was admired for her work ethic, having worked all her life and being a provider. Iva had a lifelong love of reading and could not be happier than having a book to read; she frequented the library often. She would live to see her great-grandchild Harrison born on her very own birthday in 2018, as well as her great-great-grandchild, Rowland, named in honor of her loving husband. During her lifetime, she was always in good health and would later say she never had totake medicine and speculated that it would probably make her sick if she had. She would then smile and laugh as she always did, which always brought joy to those she loved so dearly. Iva attended church at the First Baptist Church of Brandon, where she was a member before moving to Tampa, where she lived with her daughter Sylvia. While living in Tampa, she attended Northgate Baptist Church, where she was actively involved with the church's senior ministry group, which allowed her to travel as far as New Orleans. Iva frequently walked to church when attending at Northgate which she truly enjoyed despite it being a half-mile walk. It was a good thing that Iva enjoyed walking so much, as she never had an actual driver's license. However, she did have a learner's permit for a while. Iva would later attend church at Bell Shoals Baptist Church when she moved back to Brandon and lived with her daughter Gloria in 2004. Iva was always outgoing and friendly; she was full of joy and had a loving spirit. She led a full and blessed life, and we are all so grateful to have had her in our lives that she made so complete. She will live on through her entire family, as she is so much a part of each one of us. Memories of her will forever be bright and a guiding force in all our lives.
