Meredith Susanna Cara Kercher, known to her friends as "Mez," was born on December 28, 1985, in Southwark, Greater London, England. She was the youngest daughter of John and Arline Kercher and sister to John Jr., Lyle and Stephanie. The family resided in Coulsdon, Greater London, England.
Witty and beautiful was how family and friends described the girl with the dazzling smile, an exotic beauty that blended the best of Anglo-Saxon and Indian cultures. She had a keen intelligence and clever sense of humor. Well known for her grace and sense of style, she was also kind and diligent.
Meredith attended the Old Palace School in Croydon, Greater London, England, and Leeds University in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, where she was working toward a degree in European Studies. As part of the ERASMUS student exchange programme, she was abroad for a year at the University of Perugia, Perugia, Umbria, Italy, when she died on November 1, 2007.
On December 14, 2007, hundreds attended as Meredith was laid to rest in her hometown of Croydon, Greater London, England, at St. John the Baptist Church. Her father, John Sr., treated the crowd to fond remembrances of her "warm and bubbly personality," brother John Jr. read from Revelation Chapter 21, brother Lyle delivered the eulogy telling her friends to remember the good things and sister Stephanie read a poem she had written called "Don't Say Goodbye." Her mother, Arline, was buoyed by the love and support.
The Vicar of Croydon, Rev. Colin Boswell, also chaplain at the Old Palace School, led the service and was gladdened by the good-natured laughter that rippled through the pews as family, friends and dozens of University of Leeds students remembered this delightful girl.
The Old Palace School choir sang the requiem "In Paradisum," and the mourners sang two hymns, "For The Beauty of the Earth" and "Abide With Me." Mourners also listened to Meredith's favourite piece of music, "With or Without You," by the band U2. The family is planning a scholarship in her name. She Kercher is dearly missed by her devoted family and friends.
Shortly before her untimely death, Meredith appeared in the hauntingly beautiful video "Some Say" by Kristian Leontiou.

Leeds University awarded her a posthumous degree in December 2009, and the University for Foreigners in Perugia established a scholarship in her name in November 2010.
