Johnstown Daily Tribune - January 01, 1916

Ebensburg, Jan 1, -- Constable Samuel Beers of White Township, shot and killed himself yesterday while alone in his home. No one seems to know why he committed suicide. He has been prospering, and until recently was manager of the store of the Fallen Timber Supply Company. Samuel Beers was 55 years old. He is survived by his widow and a number of children, among them Fred, a rural mail carrier from Fallen Timber; Joel (should be Joe) of Johnstown; Dewey, at home; Mrs Gilbert Hollis, of Frugality, and Mrs. Adam Fry, of Johnstown. Funeral serviced will be held at the residence at 1:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Interment will be in Beaver Valley Cemetery.

BIOGRAPHY: Samuel H. Beers was born near Fallentimber, April 5, 1854, and died Dec. 30, 1918*. He engaged in general farming in early life and later conducted a general mercantile business at Fallentimber. He served as tax collector and as a constable of White Township for 14 years. He was a member of the United Brethren Church. His wife, who was born at Glasgow, PA, Sept 15, 1863, resides with her son at Ashville. Mr. and Mrs. Beers were the parents of the following children: Harvey, born March 29, 1881, died in infancy: Franklin H., born Aug 8, 1882, died Jan. 19, 1885, Frederick H.; Bessie, born Nov. 2, 1886, died Feb. 10, 1919, was the wife of Gilbert Hollis. Clara, twin sister of Clair, born Feb. 20, 1889, married Adam J. Frye, lives in Johnstown: Clair, born Feb. 20, 1889, died in 1890: Joseph A., born Oct. 04, 1892, died Nov. 26, 1918, married Isabel Hahn, lives at Johnstown; and Dewey H., born Aug. 20, 1898, associated in business with his brother at Ashville.
