Scottish Aristocracy. Born the son of Sir Andrew Agnew of Lochnaw, 3rd Baronet and Jane Hay, he entered into a marriage contract with Lady Mary Montgomerie on June 22, 1683 and with her had at least 12 children. He held the office of Hereditary Sheriff of Galloway between 1702 and 1724. He succeeded to the title of 4th Baronet Agnew, of Lochnaw, in June 1702.
