She was born Jan. 25, 1933, in Vayland, S.D., to James W. and Vera (Gregory) Van Schaick.
She spent her early years in South Dakota and Minnesota. Ruth graduated from the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minn., and went on to a career as a registered nurse. She was employed at Sacred Heart Hospital as an R.N. from 1971 to her retirement in 1990.
She met her husband in Yellowstone National Park where they both were employed, she as a nurse and he as a park ranger. They married on May 14, 1960, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Ruth was a wonderful mother, grandma and loving companion. Through all that life has to throw at her, she came through it all without complaint.
She is survived by her husband, John; a daughter, Kippy (Dan) Ruhe-Parroni; four grandchildren, Nick and Amanda Ruhe, and Amber and Alexa Parroni; and one great-grandson, Dylan Ruhe.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and her son, Kirk M. Larson.
