Donald Devol Hagen was born 05 Aug 1920 to Louis Lange and Blanche Louise Coons-Lange-Hagen (1900-1994) in the state of Nebraska. His mother married Anthony "Tony" C. Hagen (1891-1954) sometime later. He was sometimes seen using his step-father's surname. The family moved to Kansas, moving again to Texas sometime after his step-father's death in 1954. Donald served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
