Elmer Russell Parrish, 93, died Monday, March 31, 2008, at York Hospital, at 11:25 p.m. He was the husband of Margarete Christine (Sobisek) Parrish.

He was born October 18, 1914, in Baltimore, Md, the son of the late Russell Stephen and Alice Mildred (Trabert) Parrish.

Elmer was a retired U.S. Army 1st Sergeant. He was an Army veteran of WWII serving in the European Theater of Operations in the 38th AAA Brigade and was also a veteran of the Korean War. He served his country for 20 years from 1941 until his retirement in 1962.

Elmer was employed from 1962-1964 by the PA State Liquor Control Board and later retired in 1984 from the York Post Office with 20 years of service. Elmer was a life member of Hanover VFW Post 2506 and Hanover Lodge No. 227, Loyal Order of the Moose. He was also a member of the National Letter Carriers Association (NALC) Branch No. 509, York. He was a 1932 graduate of Codorus Township High School, Glenville.

In addition to his wife, Elmer is survived by two daughters, Patricia Margarete Parrish Grubb and her husband, Kenneth of Hershey and Barbara Ann Parrish Becker and her husband, Clifford of Thomasville; two granddaughters, Andrea Marie Withrow Moul and her husband, Gregory, Jr. of Dover and Christine Shawn Withrow of Arlington, Texas; five great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Curtis L. and C. Kenneth Parrish, both of York, and Donald E. Parrish of Hellam. Elmer was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Christine Parrish Kopp; and a brother, Floyd L. Parrish.

Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery.
