Alma Caldwell Akers,, 87, of Blacksburg, died Monday, January 22, 1996 at Heritage Hall Health Care Center. Born in Montgomery County on February 25, 1908, she was the daughter of the late William Nicholas and Sarah Catherine Keffer Caldwell. Mrs. Akers taught school in the Montgomery County School System most of her adult life, beginning in 1924, and was the Supervisor of the Adult Education Classes for several years. She was a member of the First Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Lee Akers. Surviving are one daughter and son in law, Melva A. and Bradley E. Crawford; two grandsons, Christopher D. and wife Jennifer Crawford, and Rodney J. Crawford; one great grandson, Chazmen D. Crawford, all of Radford; one sister, Goldie Caldwell Stowers, Blacksburg; several nieces and nephews.
