Abraham Anthony, Sr. was the son of Bartholomew Anthony and Catharina Peck and the husband of Elizabeth Hilsinger.
After the American Revolution Abraham and his family moved to Schoharie County, New York. He married in 1797 and by 1820 he and his family lived in Jefferson Co, New York. For several decades in Jefferson County Abraham and his sons were renowned as barn builders and skilled carpenters. In 1850 after Abraham Sr.'s death his daughter Catherine recorded a one-page family history and left it in the family Bible. Eighty years later it was found by her nephew Charles' widow, Lena Chidester Anthony, who transcribed the document. Another family member circulated copies to all branches of the Abraham Anthony family throughout the U.S.:
