Irene Scott Veale lovingly referred to as "Big Gal" by family and friends was born October 29, 1929 and departed this life on December 07, 2006 at her home on Victoria Avenue in Norfolk, VA.

She is a native of Norfolk County, (Chesapeake) VA and the daughter of the late William Scott, Sr. and Carrie Bell Easely Scott. Mrs. Veale was predeceased by her husband Curtis Veale and daughter Elzenia McDuffy. She is one of the founding members of Bethany Baptist Church Campostella Road, Chesapeake, VA; and for many years faithfully served as a missionary. Mrs. Veale touched the lives of many
and was affectionately called "Mama."

She is survived by: daughter, Evon Carpenter of Suffolk, VA; grandson, Byron Maurice Veale of Petersburg, VA; granddaughter, Christie Irene McDuffy of Chesapeake, VA; step grandchildren, Vincent, Roland, and Kevin Carpenter of Chesapeake, VA; two brother-in-laws, Leslie Veale and John Veale (Evelyn) of MD; two son-in-laws, Calvin Carpenter of Suffolk, VA and George McDuffy of Chesapeake, VA; three sisters, Cynthia Acevedo, Sally McCoy and Beatrice Fearing of Chesapeake, VA; four brothers, Obie Scott (Rita) of Philadelphia, PA, Hosea Scott (Willie Mae), Robert Scott of Chesapeake, VA, Luther J. Scott (Jacqueline) of Suffolk, VA; one sister-in-law, Josephine Scott of Chesapeake; a special daughter, Alma Billups Jackson of Chesapeake, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
