Ballerina. Born in Moscow she trained at the Bolshoi Moscow Ballet School.
In 1963 she joined the Bolshoi Ballet and was its prima ballerina for three decades.
She was married to Yuri Grigorovich director and choreographer of the Bolshoi. She created roles in his numerous ballets including Spartacus, Legend of Love and Ivan the Terrible.
She was best known for her portrayal of Giselle and Odette.
Her awards included The Gold Medal at Varna International Ballet Competition, The Anna Pavlova Prize, USSR State Prize, Lenin Prize and People's Artist of the USSR
