He died from wounds sustained when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device on March 23, 2008. Chris lived in Erick, Oklahoma until the age of two. At that time he moved with his father and two sisters to Enid, Oklahoma. While attending high school at Oklahoma Bible Academy, he developed many interests. He loved soccer, boating, skiing, music and being with family and friends. Chris was a spiritual person and during his high school days, he traveled to Mexico on a mission trip. In May 2000, he graduated from O.B.A. and joined the Army - his first assignment was to the "Old Guard" unit at Fort McNair in Arlington, Virginia. He marched in the Inaugural parade for President Bush in 2001 and was in the Old Guard when the Pentagon was attacked on 9/11. He was immediately called upon to clear the Pentagon after the attack. On December 21, 2004, Chris married the love of his life, his "Oklahoma Sweetheart", Kelli, and on October 14, 2006, their beautiful baby boy made his appearance. He was on his second deployment to Iraq when he was killed. Chris was encouraged about this second deployment and said he was more at peace than he had been his whole life. He was 100 percent sure we should be there and he talked of the love of the Iraqi people for him and his guys. Once the surge started, Chris really felt like they were making progress, they were there for the right reason and the Iraqis did not want them to leave. He was in command of four or five others who went on street patrols in Baghdad. He loved his job and loved the men he worked with. Chris said they would die for each other, and sadly they did.
