Riley retired from Peabody Coal Company Lynnville Mine in 1993 after 45 years. His favorite pastime was farming and raising cattle. He was a member of the Barnett Chapel Church, a member of the VFW Post 3418 of Boonville where he served on the Retired Veterans Memorial Services Funeral Detail, a member of the Elberfeld American Legion No. 351, Richland Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Hadi Shrine.
Riley is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ruth (Harris) Aigner of Lynnville; one son, Mike Aigner and his wife, Janelle, of Lynnville; four stepdaughters, Ruth Ann Sellers and her husband, Mike, of Boonville, Ind., Joan Susott and her husband, Dennis, of Elberfeld, Ind., Jean Varone and her husband, Mike, of Lakespur, Colorado, and Peggy Wade and her husband, Larry, of Oakland City, Ind.; one sister, Angella Linton of Cadiz, Ky.; nine grandchildren, Lisa and Leah Aigner, Brandon Sellers, Marvin Susott, Joshua Susott, Rhonda Cooper, Katie Grace, Andrea Eagleman and Eva Bapst; and two great-grandchildren, Myles Susott and Brayden Cooper.
Riley was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nancy, one stepdaughter, Carolyn Glackman, and one brother, Richard Lee Aigner.
Services for Riley will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008, from the Barnett Chapel Church, burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Steven Oeth will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. The Warrick County Retired Veterans Memorial Services will conduct military graveside rites. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
