She was the daughter of Oliver Perry Poynter (died 1910) and Susan Isabelle Hiatt Poynter (1847-1909), who were interred at Hillsboro, Oregon. She was married to Woodson L. Flippin. Her maiden name is also found spelled as Pointer. She was the mother of Hazel Flippin, who married Earl Jackson Silva, brother of Arthur Martin Silva.
