"M. Elizabeth Lyle, 90, of Main Street, Hickory, died Sunday January 4, 1987 in her home. She was born October 1, 1896, in Mt. Pleasant Township, a daughter of Samuel Allison and Eliabeth McCarrell McCalmont. Mrs. Lyle was a member of the former Mt. Pleasant United Presbyterian Church and had served as financial secretary of the church. She graduated from Hickory High School in 1916 and had taught in the Mt. Pleasant Township and Smith Township schools. In 1941, she became a postal clerk in the Hickory Post Office, retiring in 1963. On June 17. 1948 she married Donald Neil Lyle, who died in October 1983. Surviving are a brother, Donaldson McCalmont of Hickory and several nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Leman McCalmont, Loudwick McCalmont and Allison McCalmont and two sisters, Ellen Lyle and Florence Robinson are deceased. Services will be held in the William E. Speakman Funeral Home, Houston on Tuesday Jan. 6 with the Rev. Gordon Boak officiating. Burial in Mt. Prospect Cemetery. - Observer Reporter, Jan 5, 1987. "
