Zola Mae was born in Booneville, Arkansas to George and Bettie Humble Stanley. She married Adron Young Manus in Oklahoma and the couple began their family. They were blessed with five children: Evan, Stanley, Leon Haskell, Thurman, and Ophelia. Zola trained to be a nurse and unlike many women of her time worked outside the home when possible. After husband Adron died Zola accepted the proposal of a prominent recently widowed Logan County legislator and farmer John Martin Willems and aquired twelve more children in the process--although several of the twelve were already married or on their own. The marriage took place in Little Rock in 1934. She nurtured the younger children and insisted they were given the proper vaccinations and kept healthy. She worked at the Paris Hospital on the hill as well as the Tuberculosis Sanatorium in Booneville. Then in 1959 after Zola Mae and John celebrated their 25 years together Zola found herself once again a widow. She sold the farm outside Paris, Arkansas and moved to town. She married Frank Classen and was widowed again when he died in August of 1968. Joseph Greenberg was her final husband, but the marriage didn't last. During her lifetime she embraced various religions including Methodist, Catholic, and Baptist depending on the religion of her husband. She was a good and kind woman and enjoyed being helpful.
