Former Alaska resident Michael F. "Mike" Smith, 52, died July 22 at his home in Tacoma, Wash., after a brief illness. A graveside service was held at the New Tacoma Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born April 16, 1940, in Tacoma. He worked with the USA Maritime in Prudhoe Bay for many years. He served in the U.S. Navy with two tours in Vietnam as a Navy Seal.
Mr. Smith is survived by his life companion, Eva Prewitt; four children, Karen, Matt, Wayne and James; his brother, Pat; his sister, Christine; and his mother, Zella. Memorial contributions may be sent in his name to the Hospice of Tacoma, 750 Market St., Tacoma 98402. Arrangements were by Tacoma Cemeteries and Funeral Home.
