He was known during the disturbing times in Guatemala for putting his feet up on the desk with his formal jacket falling open to revel the pistol he wore during his time there.
Betty and John had two children, John Clinton and Daniel Byrd Peurifoy. They are buried with their Father in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
She married Arthur Chichester Stewart following the death of John E. Peurifoy.
