Ireta was born Dec. 14, 1930, in Fort Worth, daughter of the late Robert Vance and Ireta Robison Simons. She graduated from The Hockaday School of Dallas and was the first alumna to return to the school as a faculty member. She earned a degree in technical theater from Vassar College, where she served as stage manager in many of the college's theatrical productions. Following her graduation, she remained at Vassar for a year as a faculty member.
In 1951, Ireta met the love of her life, Russ Lambert, on a blind date while he was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base. Following their marriage in 1955, Ireta taught school while Russ earned his medical degree. They shared a joyful 52 years, always together, through both happy and difficult times.
Ireta was a member of the Junior League of Fort Worth, the Lecture Foundation and the Tarrant County Medical Auxiliary. She was a past president of the Fort Worth Country Day School Parent Faculty Association and a member of the Jewel Charity Ball. She was presented at the Steeplechase Ball in 1952.
More importantly, she was a committed Christian whose life was dedicated to her faith and her family. Ireta attended McKinney Bible Church and served for many years as a leader in Bible Study Fellowship. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a wonderful example of unconditional love. Ireta took special pride in the accomplishments of her grandchildren, never missing a performance, athletic event or school program.
