Sarah M. "Sally" Cowan, 77, of Vienna died July 31, 2003, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born March 4, 1926, in New York City, N.Y., a daughter of the late Reuben U. and Dorothy Maxwell Jackson. Mrs. Cowan taught school in Eastern Shore, Md., and Wheeling, W.Va., before moving to Parkersburg with her husband in 1950. She was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church and Women's Medical Auxiliary.

She is survived by her son, Robert C. Cowan III of Vienna; two daughters, Pamela A. Kuhl of Vienna and Sandra S. Jones of West Chester, Pa.; sister, Dorothy Donaldson of Fort Smith, Ark.; sister-in-law, Betty Lou Talbott of Parkersburg; brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William J. Cowan of Richmond, Va.; five grandchildren, Jared A. Kuhl and Barbara L. Kuhl of Vienna, Megan R. Jones, Kathryn M. Jones and Christopher C. Jones of West Chester, Pa.; and a goddaughter, Elizabeth A. Bailey West of Vienna.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert C. Cowan Jr.; a son, Jackson M. Cowan; a daughter, Barbara L. Cowan; and a brother, George M. Jackson.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Rev. Paul M. Stadelman officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at funeral home.
