James Edward "Jim" Stone, 70 years 7 months and 13 days of age, of Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life on Monday, January 14th, 2007 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Jim was born in Somerset, Kentucky on June 1st, 1936, son of the late Cyrus "Lasses" and Mary Nancy Ziglar Stone. Jim was of the Baptist faith, a retired plumber and electrician, and a member of the Mount Gilead Masonic Lodge No#255 Free & Accepted Masons in Science Hill, Kentucky.

Jim could fix just about anything. He enjoyed working on lawn mowers and always had several riding mowers sitting around. Jim never had a driver license but could often be seen going down the road on one of his riding mowers, sometimes several miles from home. Jim was a people person and knew hundreds of people in the Somerset area, anytime he went into a restaurant people would always sit down and talk to him, the longer he stayed the more people visited his table. He may have not had a lot of money but he was rich with friends.

Jim was survived by one daughter, Margaret Ann "Margie" (and her husband, Daniel) Davis of Somerset, Kentucky; one son, James Edward "Jamie" Stone Jr. of Somerset, Kentucky; two grandsons, Joshua Smith and Tyler Stone, both of Somerset, Kentucky; three brothers, Hebert McKennley Stone, and Richard Cundiff, both of Somerset, Kentucky, and Kenneth Stone of Hagerstown, Indiana; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyrus "Lasses" Stone, who departed this life on February 3rd, 1965 and Mary Nancy Stone, who departed this life on December 11th, 1946; his loving wife of 27 years, Edna Joan "Jo Ann" Vaught Stone, whom he married on July 28th,1958 in Somerset, Kentucky and who departed this life on July 19th, 1986; one sister, Evelyn Stone Foster, who departed this life on January 21st, 1988; and one brother, Jessie Marion Stone, who departed this life on March 29th, 1994.

Visitations were held after 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16th, 2007 at the Pulaski Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky. Masonic services were contucted by the Mount Gilead Masonic Lodge No#255 on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17th, 2007 in the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. David Bullock officating.

Burial followed in the Tanner Cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky.

THIS IS A TRIBUTE IN MEMORY OF JIM,

What makes a man a Mason, O brother of mine?
It isn't the due guard, nor is it the sign,
It isn't the jewel which hangs on your breast
It isn't the apron in which you are dressed

It isn't the step, nor the token, nor the grip,
Nor lectures that fluently flow from the lip,
Nor yet the possession of that mystic word
On five points of fellowship duly conferred.

Though these are essential, desirable, fine,
They don't make a Mason, O brother of mine.
That you to your sworn obligation are true
that my brother, makes a Mason of you.
