Elva Nicholas Hansen

Elva Nicholas Hansen, 101, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at his home.

He was born Feb. 1, 1907, in Petrolia to Nicholas and Kathleen (Knapp) Hansen. He farmed and entered military service in 1942, serving in World War II in France and crossed Omaha Beach.

He married Amanda Irene Depue on Jan. 24, 1947, in Oswego. She died Dec. 29, 1985.

He was a member of the Friendship Church of Hallowell.

He is survived by his beloved daughter-in-law and caretaker, Maye Orem of the Montana community; two daughters, Elsie Wolgamott and her husband, Curtis, of McCune and Phyllis Osborne and her husband, Wilie, of Lehigh, Okla.; a son, Kenny Orem and his wife, Doris Arlene, of Pratt; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a nephew, Calvin Hansen of Manhattan; two nieces, Barbara Haugh Davis of Dewey, Okla., and June Haugh Mull of Copan, Okla.; and numerous stepnieces and stepnephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother; two sisters; two sons, James L. Orem and David L. Orem; a daughter, Josie Larcom; and three grandchildren, Brenda Gayle Wright, Gary Lee Orem and Richard Lee Wolgamott.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at McCune Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Heflin officiating. The military rites with the Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars, of Parsons will follow.

There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Care of Kansas, and these may be sent to Murdock Funeral Home, 203 Illinois, Oswego, 67356.
