Idaho State Journal, POCATELLO - Loren Cecil Dunn, 96, passed away at his home at Cottonwood Cove on Tuesday, September 16, 2003, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born October 13, 1906, at Bennington, Idaho, the 10th of 11 children of William Meguire Dunn and Sarah Jane Robinson Dunn. He was raised on the Dunn family ranch near Bennington, where he learned the value of hard work. On June 27, 1928, he married Ruby Dayton in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Cecil was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad for 43 years, retiring in 1971. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many capacities, including bishop of the Inkom Ward and ward clerk in the McCammon Ward. He was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed fishing the Fort Hall Bottoms. He loved to hunt and fish with his sons and grandsons. Cecil had a good tenor voice, loved to sing and taught his children and grandchildren many catchy little tunes. He was an excellent dancer and thoroughly enjoyed dancing. His wife, Ruby, passed away on August 20, 1970. Cecil met Blanche Piggott at a singles' dance and they were married on July 31, 1971, at Idaho Falls, Idaho, and then made their home in Bloomington, Idaho. He and Blanche served a mission for the LDS Church in the Little Rock, Arkansas mission. They also served as officiators in the Logan, Utah Temple for 10 years. Blanche passed away on January 20, 1993, and Cecil moved to Pocatello to be closer to his children. He was an outstanding patriarch, a wonderful example to his family, and will be greatly missed.
