John was killed while serving in the Army at Lake George in the province of New York. John is memorialized on his father's tombstone, but it is doubtful that his body was ever returned to Massachusetts. Hundreds were killed during the three parts of that battle. The worst of the Lake George battle was actually a year before John died. The date of John's death on his father's tombstone is November 2d, 1756 -- not 27th. If you compare that number with John's age of 23, you will see that the numeral 2 is the same.
