Petty Officer Strain was entitled to wear the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Medal and the Navy Good Conduct Medal.
Danny was only 21 years old when he was killed in an automobile accident at the intersection of Route K and Highway 740, near the stadium of MU in Columbia, Missouri. He was driving his pride and joy - a new Chevy II Nova powered by a racing engine built by Dick Harrell of Kansas City, Missouri. The cause of death was fracture of the cervical spine. (Mr. Harrel was killed just 3 years later in a car he built for himself.)
