Eva Angeline Zakaib Assaley, 89, of Huntington, formerly of Charleston, died Monday, February 25, 2008 at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
She was born April 18, 1918, in Sherbrooke, Ont., Canada. Eva was preceded in death by her husband, S. Basil Assaley and her son, A.George Assaley.
Eva was a life long member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, and was passionately active in the Shums' Il Bir Club. She worked at the Sterling Restaurant during the 40's, the Diamond Department Store in the 70's (until it closed) and Stone & Thomas/Elder-Beerman. Eva had a great love and passion for her grandchildren and cooking.
Eva is survived by two sons, Dr. Joseph Assaley (Dr. Renee Domanico) of Chesapeake, OH and Lewis (Patricia) of Cincinnati, OH; daughter-in-law, Misty (George) of Charleston; 7 grandchildren, Alex of Falls Church, VA, Kara of Missoula, MT, Simone of Charleston, Emily and Amanda of Chesapeake, OH, Anna of Cincinnati, and Andy (Sarah) of Manhattan, KS; 4 great-grandchildren, Cali, Isabella, Payton and William of Manhattan, KS.
Funeral services will be 11 AM, Saturday, March 1, 2008, at St. George Orthodox Cathederal, Charleston with Father Olaf Scott officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, So. Charleston.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 to 9 pm, Friday at Bartlett Burdette Cox Funeral Home, where Trisagion Prayer services will be held at 8:30.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to St. George Orthodox Catherderal, Court Street, Charleston, WV 25302.
