Byron M. Emery, a long-time resident of Mercer Island Wa., died May 18 2007 at Harbor View Hospital, Seattle, after a 24-hour illness.
Mr. Emery was born December 31 1926 in Brookville to Amos and Vera (Peterson) Emery.
His life and career spanned service in the U.S. Navy during W.W.II and a recall for the Korean War, advancing to the rank of Lieutenant.
Between wars he earned an engineering degree from Penn State University, graduating in 1949.
Drawn to the West Coast he formed his own construction company in Oregon. Following this he had a successful career with Morrison-Knudsen Construction Company as a field engineer on many major construction projects (including three big western dams) in the Pacific Northwest and other jobs in Alaska and Hawaii.
An avid pilot and sailor, he retired as a real estate developer on Mercer Island Wa. where some of his favorite achievements were the building of the Islandian Apartments, Dawn Vista, Dawn Villa, and Dawn Terrace subdivisions. He was also a life member, 32 degree Mason, in the Valley of Seattle orient.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Cadwallader and Amos. One sister, Miriam Durante survives as do nine nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at the Mckinney Funeral Home in Brookville on June 9th with internment at the family lot in the Brookville cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Brookville YMCA, 125 Main St., Brookville, Pa. 15825, a special place for Byron.
