Mrs. Cox, 90, of Wabasha, died Friday (Feb. 22, 2008) at St. Elizabeth's Nursing Home.
Evelyn Mowers was born Sept. 14, 1917, in Northwood, Iowa, daughter of Lloyd and Anna (Hermanson) Mowers. She married Clinton Goslee on April 4, 1935, in Boland, Iowa. The couple lived in Austin and had two children. She worked 16 years at the Geo. A. Hormel Co. Mr. Goslee died in a car accident in November 1960.
On May 23, 1961, she married Alfred "Al" Cox at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. They made their home on Sand Prairie, outside Wabasha, where they owned and operated the Pioneer Supper Club. They retired in 1975. She was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church and its CCW, was a longtime member of the Wabasha American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries, and served as president of both the Legion Auxiliary and the Wabasha County Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, working puzzles, and especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Al; a son, Allen (Jeanette) Goslee of Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter, Sherri Goslee Caven of Wabasha; two stepsons, Mike (Delores) Cox of Shell Lake, Wis., and Mark (Doreen) Cox of Wabasha; 14 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dale Mowers of Albert Lea. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, a sister and a brother.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha, with a CCW Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a Prayer service at 7 p.m. Friends may also call an hour before the service Tuesday at the church.
