My friend and fellow SAR crewman, AE2 Ron Curtiss (27) was killed flying collateral duty as Flight Engineer on C-117 crashed at sea 16 miles off coast of Guam over the Marianas Trench. Navy Band member, MU3 Scott Smith (20), also in front of aircraft was killed. The date was 14 August 1978.
Ron & I lived close to each other on base and used to jog to work together in the morning.

Ron is survived by his wife, Janice; his son, Ronald Jr.; and his daughter, Robyn.

Another friend and fellow SAR crewman, Dave Rathbun also onboard as 2nd Crew, helped surviving 20 passengers out of aircraft before sinking. Pilot & Copilot (LT Bob Bell) also survived, although Bob Bell was severely injured. I was SAR Swimmer in the water on helo rescue at the site after plane had sunk.
