of Beulah,Crawford County, Kansas.An acccount of the event from the Pittsburg, Kansas Morning Sun newspaper, 1945, follows; "Silver Star Medal with Citation awarded posthumously for conspicuous gallantry and intrepity. PFC Burns advanced under intense hostile fire to rescue a wounded Marine and carry him back to safety. Later, he advanced again to drag a wounded man to cover, but was killed in the attempt."
