An 1884 biographical sketch of James More in the Lapeer County History Book, states the following: "James More, deceased, was born in Scotland in 1816 and came to America in 1841. He stopped in New York until 1851, when he came to Michigan and located in the town of Almont, remaining there until 1853, when he removed to Metamora and settled on Section 1. In 1857 he was elected sheriff of Lapeer County... . He was married in 1851 to Miss Cynthia Richmond, of [Livingstson Co.],New York, by whom he had six children."
