August (Gus) Jennings Boecker

August (Gus) Jennings Boecker, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2000, at the age of 83.

August was born January 14, 1917, to Otto and Myrtle (Hearne) Boecker of Ben Arnold, Texas, into a family of three other brothers.

Following service in the army, he attended Texas A & M at College Station and the University of Texas at Austin. On June 1, 1947, he married Ruby Mae Poehl of Caldwell, Texas. Their union produced four daughters and two sons.

Their home since 1950 has been Manor, Texas, and they have been members of Grace Lutheran Church in Elgin, Texas.

August was employed with the City of Austin in the 1950's, and retired from American Desk Company in Taylor in 1984.

August was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Rufus and Wesley.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby; brother, W.O. Boecker of Bryan; children, Elsa Sorensen and husband Alan of Austin, Waldon Boecker and wife Karen of Coupland, Mary Lou Ralls and husband Terry Newman of Austin, Arthur Boecker and wife Sharon of Manor, Cindy Huffman and husband Ryan of Coupland, and Betty Boecker of Manor; grandchildren, David Sorensen and wife Kate, Jason Boecker and wife Tiffany, Jared Boecker and wife Beth, Brice Boecker, Steven Hibbs Jr. and wife Heather, Tracy McKee and husband Steve, Black Newman, Dusty Boecker, Matt Boecker, and Paul Boecker; and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, January 1, 2001, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Condra Funeral Home, 503 Talbot St., Taylor, Texas. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2001, 10:00 a.m., at Condra Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Bryan Sullivan officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 801 W. 11th St., Elgin, Texas 78621.
