William Pilla Sr.
WEST NEWTON William Pilla Sr., 85, of West Newton, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008. Born in Newton, July 10, 1922, to the late Anthony and Angelina (Yarossi) Pilla, he was a lifelong resident of Newton. Mr. Pilla served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a Bronze Star Medal recipient. He worked for the city of Newton for more than 30 years. Mr. Pilla was a lifetime member of the Waltham Moose Lodge and a member of the VFW Nonantum Post 440. He was the brother of the late Mary, Henry, Anthony, and George Pilla. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Ann L. (Gorgone) Pilla; his devoted children, William Pilla Jr. of Waltham, and Laurie and her husband, James; his brother, Albert Cecchinelli of Newton; his sister, Annette Affsa of Florida; and his cherished grandchildren Alexandra, Rebecca and Robert. Services will be held from the Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, Waltham, on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at 9:30 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of his life at Saint Bernards Church, 1523 Washington St., West Newton, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty. Donations in Williams memory may be made to the Jimmy Fund, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226, ATTN: Contribution Services
