John Wesley Hoover was born September 25, 1843 in Tennessee to Harris Bradford and Anna H Newhouse. John was born fouth of thirteen children and his siblings were William Martin, James Polk, Elizabeth A, Thomas Bergeans, Andrew Jackson, Prudence Evelyn, Benjamin Sanford, Daniel Henry, Preston Brooks, Mary Eleanor, Mathias Lyle and Yancy Lewis Hoover. His family lived on their plantation in Gibson County, Tennessee.
On November 30, 1861, John inlisted into the Confederate Army as a Private. He was in F Company, 47th Tennessee Infantry. He fought in the Battle of Shilo. On January 26, 1864, he was hospitalized and that December he was captured. December 16, 1864, he was taken to the Military Prison, Louisville, Kentucky and transferred to Camp Douglas, Illinois. On Decemember 21, 1864, John was taken from Camp Douglas to Maryland. On June 27, 1865, he signed the Oath of Allegiance and joined his family in Bell County, Texas.
On July 10, 1875, John married Adaline E McBryde. Together they had four children and they were Thomas Jefferson, Anna Belle, James Polk and Robert Yancy Hoover. He and his family farmed.
On March 9, 1926, John Wesley Hoover passed away, at the age of 82, in his son's, Robert Yancy Hoover, home.
