Died, Tuesday, July 26, at 2:35 a.m., at her home at 947 South Spring street, Mrs. Nancy J. Allen, after a lingering illness of sixteen months. Mrs. Allen was a devoted Christian and a loving mother and wife. She was born in Laurel county, Ky., in 1836, and was the daughter of Moses and Alcy Moore. She removed to this city with her husband in 1867, where she had since resided. She leaves her husband, Joab Allen, and two daughters, Mabel and Maude, to mourn her loss. Also, three sisters, Mrs. M.A. Jones of this city, Mrs. Lottie Oakley and Miss Mima Moore of London, Ky., and two brothers, James and John Moore of Laurel county, Ky. ~Pub in the Illinois State Journal , Springfield, IL, 7-27-1892

The funeral of Mrs. Nancy J. Allen, wife of Joab Allen, took place from the family residence, No. 947 South Spring street at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, the Rev. A. P. Cobb, pastor of the Christian church, officiating. There was a large attendance of friends. The pall bearers were Messrs. James White, L. B. Ames, R. S. McConnell, Charles Tomlinson, Wm. F. Nicholson, and Walter T. Stockdale. The remains were interred in Oak Ridge cemetery. The music was furnished by the members of the Y.P.S.C.E. of the Christian church, and the flowers were both elegant and beautiful. ~Pub. in the Illinois State Register, Springfield, IL, 7-28-1892
