He joined Providence Valley Lutheran Church in the early 1940's, and continued to be a faithful member.
Donald was united in marriage with Margaret Soblom on January 21, 1945 at the Providence Valley Lutheran Church Parsonage by Dr. Emil Benson. He was inducted into the U.S. Naval Reserve February 1, 1945 at the Great Lakes Naval Reserve Training Center and was discharged shortly after the war ended in 1945. He has been a member of the American Legion for 60 years.
Donald opened a business with his father's blacksmith shop in 1946 doing auto and tractor repairs, and part-time truck driving. When his father-in-law Frank Soblom passed away in 1949, he joined with his brother-in-law Ralph Soblom and formed Soblom and Anderson Partnership.
