INFANT LAID TO REST TWO YEARS AFTER BEING PUT IN DUMPSTER

NORFOLK – A newborn found dead in a dumpster two years ago was laid to rest in a quiet ceremony Thursday.
Baby Grace, as she was named by investigators, was found in late March by construction workers at a site near the Campostella Bridge.
The African-American baby was wrapped in plastic and died of blunt force trauma to the stomach.
Baby Grace was buried at Roosevelt Memorial Park at 1101 Campostella Road. Police spokesman Chris Amos told WVEC.com that Metropolitan Funeral Services has taken care of all the arrangements and costs.
"My heart is just aching," said Cecila Wilkerson of Chesapeake, who attended the funeral for the child she never knew. "I can't believe that anyone would do that to another human being, especially a baby."
"I always wanted a child, and I thought about that," said Nathan Lennon of Norfolk. "If this girl had thought that she could have gave that child to somebody."
Police say the case is still open and they are still searching for the child's mother and the person who put the baby in the dumpster.
