Fern H. Anderson, age 100, of Batavia, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2008 at McAuley Manor in Aurora. She was born December 30, 1907 in Eola, Illinois, the daughter of Asher and Flora (nee Kessler) High. She was united in marriage in 1931 to Victor E. Anderson in Iowa.

Fern was a 1925 Batavia High School graduate. Fern worked as a secretary and stenographer for the telephone company during the depression years, and received her bachelor degree in 1950 from Pestalozzi Froble College in Chicago. She taught school for many years, beginning her teaching career at a one-room country school east of Batavia. She later taught in Kaneville and St. Charles schools.

Fern attended First Baptist Church in Batavia where she was actively involved for many years. She was an active volunteer for the Batavia Historical Society, the Batavia Food Pantry, local hospitals, Firwood Nursing Home and Meals on Wheels. She broke her hip in 1999, which limited her volunteer activities, but after her recovery she returned to her active volunteer work helping others. She was truly a dedicated and loving person, and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Deronda (Richard) Mades, of Battleground, Washington; son, Rockne S. (Eva) Anderson of Richboro, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Kimberly (Greg) Joner, Cindic (Steve) Brown, Tiffany (Matt) Hurst, Mindi (Brian) Ackerman, R. Stephen (Kate) Anderson and Drew (Kathy) Anderson; 17 great-grandchildren; and her nephew, Duane (Ellen) Stone.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Victor E. "Vic" Anderson in 1984; a son, Garrick Anderson in 1949; and by her sister, Lorraine Parmann.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the First Baptist Church, 15 N. Washington in Batavia. Interment will be private in River Hills Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the building fund of the First Baptist Church of Batavia.
