A son of Hugh and Eliza Gilkerson, he was born Sept. 4, 1859, near Mt. Crawford. He lived there for a number of years and then moved to the Mossy Creek community, where he spent the remainder or his life.
He was a member of the Mossy Creek Presbyterian Church and a man of Christian convictions.
Surviving is his widow, who was Miss Mary Crowe, and the following children: Mrs. George Thacker, Grottoes; Mrs. Ed Knicely, Harrisonburg, Mrs. S. E. Thacker, Mossy Creek; Miss Emma Gilkerson at home. Fifteen grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the Mossy Creek Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. S. M. Query in charge.
